BIAESN Launches New International Exchange with Support from Creative Generation

The Berklee Institute for Arts Education and Special Needs (BIAESN) and Creative Generation are pleased to announce their expanded collaboration to support the new International Arts Education and Disability Justice Exchange.

The International Arts Education & Disability Justice Exchange, which will commence in March 2022, provides space for peer-to-peer networking and knowledge sharing among practitioners advancing both arts education and disability justice around the world. The exchange is connected with and supported by BIAESN and seeks to move the field of practice forward through regular meetings, documentation and publication of practices, and virtual spaces to exchange ideas, resources, and opportunities.

This project builds on the success of the U.S. focused Leadership Network for Arts Education and Special Needs, which provided leaders with a peer-to-peer network to support collaboration and continued efforts to move the fields of Arts Education and Special Needs forward through  regular conversations, professional development opportunities, and the creation of community-focused tools and resources.

“We believe in the power of networking to share ideas, strong practices, and community-based knowledge across communities of practice worldwide,” Jeff M. Poulin, managing director of Creative Generation. “Supporting the work of the BIAESN to expand its reach to cultivate the leading practices around the globe will be a game-changing support for those working at the intersection of arts and disability justice.”

Creative Generation was founded in April 2019 as a research initiative and has grown its work throughout the United States and around the world. Through pioneering research in the arts and cultural education field – and the relentless support of arts and cultural educators in their work to cultivate the creative capabilities of young people – the organization regularly leads professional learning initiatives and networking building through a variety of programs.

“There is a great deal to learn about the work in arts education for people with disabilities that is taking place around the world,” said Rhoda Bernard, managing director of the BIAESN. “We are very excited to open these generative and collaborative conversations among colleagues worldwide and move the field forward together.”
